Mont Ventoux
“The Giant of Provence” is Herman the painter’s favorite subject. With passion, he captures its shape that dominates the landscape, its light and colors, from sheet to sheet, from canvas to canvas. Like Paul Cézanne, who tirelessly painted Mont Sainte-Victoire, his great master.
Herman quitte en 2020 sa Belgique natale pour s’installer à Séguret dans le Vaucluse. Depuis ce jour ça lui arrive de traduire d’autres sujets comme les villages voisins Roaix et Sablet, les Dentelles de Montmirail ou le pont Romain à Vaison, toujours avec la même intensité.
The painter about his work
His parents took him all over France on vacation and concluded that the Vaucluse was the most beautiful place. Young Herman, aged 17, fell in love with the region and spent all his holidays there.
« When I was a child, I spent many holidays in Provence. I was truly fascinated by the wild and colorful landscape, the light! My inspiration during those holidays was mainly expressed through sketches and paintings of Mont Ventoux ».
The viewer about his work
Herman’s painting requires no prior knowledge; the work is expressionist-impressionist and rich in color. The numerous, pure brushstrokes seem to have come straight from the tube. Light and shadow blend harmoniously. The paintings are instantly recognizable and transport you to the warmth of the Provençal sun.
Painting in Provence
Since 2009, Herman Janssens has led several painting workshops in Vaison-la-Romaine during his annual holidays. He loves sharing his expertise. In groups or individually, participants learn the intricacies of this craft, with Mont Ventoux as a backdrop.
